Mucunski: No constitutional changes in current context

Skopje, 7 May 2026 (MIA) - Regarding bilateral relations with Bulgaria, let me be crystal clear. In the current context, the country is not ready to make the constitutional changes. There is a lack of trust and credibility when it comes to the delivery for our country and therefore the Government is not ready to undertake any steps on the constitutional changes, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski on Thursday.
"We are doing specific things related to our European prospects, the first being the Reform Agenda. Another aspect is the common foreign and security policy but also the application of European values and the country's commitment to this," FM Mucunski told reporters during a joint press conference with Council of Europe Secretary General Alain Berset.
On Rumen Radev becoming Bulgaria's PM-designate later today, Mucunski said he would refrain from stepping into the other's narrative.
"We have always been prepared for dialogue, and it was the previous Bulgarian government that did not have the will for such dialogue. I hope there is awareness in Sofia that the European perspective of our country is important for the entire region. Even if such awareness is not there, this does not mean that we are not contemplating an alternative. Nevertheless, we will continue on the path of reforms and alignment with the common foreign and security policy, continue to share those European values in which a vast majority of our citizens believe. However, if the question is about our readiness for a constitutional revision, let me be clear in saying that we are not prepared to do this in the current context," said Mucunski.
