Skopje, 10 May 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski unveiled on Sunday a monument honoring Macedonian fighters from Tuminec, Prespa, and Mala Prespa in Albania. In a social media post, Mickoski said what the country needs now more than anything else is unity over the national interests and the future.

“Today, more than anything else, Macedonia needs unity. Let us unite around the national interests, around the future of our children, around the respect for our own history and the dignity of the people. Our ancestors did not divide each other when they were defending freedom. They did not ask where someone was from or who they belonged to. They all stood together under one name – Macedonia,” Mickoski wrote on his official Facebook page.

The Macedonians in Albania, the Prime Minister stressed, are an inseparable part of the Macedonian national fabric.
“Your perseverance through the decades is worthy of respect. You preserved the Macedonian name, the language, the tradition, and the spirit even when times were hardest. And that is why today I want to clearly say: the homeland will not forget you. Macedonia stands with its people wherever they may be, with respect, with care, and with sincere support,” the PM stressed.

Under the slogan “Honor for the Heroes, a Pledge for the Future”, Macedonians from Mala Prespa organized a ceremony Sunday in Tuminec paying respects to the heroes from this region.

Along the shores of Lake Prespa lie nine settlements, with Tuminec being the second largest in the area.
