Mickoski: I expect Universal Hall reconstruction to be completed on time

Skopje, 27 April 2026 (MIA) – The reconstruction and modernisation of one of Skopje’s most important cultural symbols - the Universal Hall - is a project of exceptional importance, as its new appearance will provide the city with a modern, functional and representative institutions, a venue for concerts, theatre performances, festivals and major cultural events.
The project, with reconstruction scheduled for completion by December 2027, is also very important in the context of Skopje’s preparations for European Capital of Culture 2028, it was emphasized following Monday’s inspection of the construction works by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Minister of Culture and Tourism Zoran Ljutkov and Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said he expects the project to be completed within the set deadline and budget.
“I expect this facility to be completed within the deadline, because after all the previous delays, the European Capital of Culture project is finally gaining some momentum, and by 2028 we must fully complete all facilities. One of those is the one behind us. I am grateful, on my behalf and on behalf of the citizens of the City of Skopje, that after all the past complications this building will finally take shape. Based on what I saw and what was presented by the designer, it will truly be a remarkable work. So let us not speak prematurely, let us complete it first, and then all together we will enjoy and celebrate the cultural events that will be organized here,” Mickoski said.

Ljutkov said that the procedure for selecting the contractor has been successfully completed, creating all the conditions for the start of the construction works.
“The completion of the reconstruction is planned for December 2027. The project is of exceptional importance in the context of Skopje’s preparations for European Capital of Culture 2028. With the new appearance of the Universal Hall, the city will gain a modern, functional and representative cultural institution, a venue for concerts, theatre performances, festivals and major cultural events. This is an investment in the future of Macedonian culture, in our artists, our audience and the generations to come,” Ljutkov said.
Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski expressed satisfaction with the event and thanked the Prime Minister, the Government, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the minister for their efforts, saying they are bringing the soul of Skopje back after a long time.
