Kochani court extends short-term detention for ten people, decision pending for remaining six

Skopje, 19 March 2025 (MIA) - The Basic Court in Kochani, upon proposal of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, has so far extended the short-term detention period for another 48 hours for ten people over the deadly nightclub fire case, and a decision on extending detention for the remaining six people is yet to be made.
According to MIA's information, a decision has not yet been made over extending the detention of former Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi.
As investigation continues into the tragic fire in Kochani, the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Kochani submitted proposals to the competent court to extend the short-term detention period for 16 people so far included in the procedure, for whom the temporary detention period expires today, the Prosecutor's Office said in a press release.
Short-term detention has been ordered against two more people on Tuesday, so far bringing the total number of people subject to this measure to 18.
The devastating fire at the "Pulse" nightclub in Kochani claimed the lives of 59 people and left more than 150 injured.
