Gov’t delegation meets UNESCO representatives in Paris

Skopje, 10 February 2026 (MIA) - Macedonia’s committment to implementing the accepted obligations for the protection of the Ohrid region has been reaffirmed, wrote Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Aleksandar Nikoloski in a post on his official Facebook page Tuesday, after a government delegation met with the UNESCO Director-General, Khaled El-Enany in Paris.
The government delegation in Paris was composed of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski, Minister of Culture and Tourism Zoran Ljutkov, and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Muhamet Hoxha, as well as the mayors of the municipalities of Ohrid and Struga, Kiril Pecakov and Mendi Qyra.
In Paris, the delegation also held meetings with the President of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference Khondker Mohammad Talha, as well as the Chairperson of the UNESCO Executive Board, Nasser Bin Hamad Al Hinzab.
“We discussed the significance of UNESCO in today’s world as the only multilateral organization that promotes dialogue and international cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, and communications. The talks focused on the situation of the Ohrid region as a natural and cultural World Heritage site, with emphasis placed on the importance of continuous and timely implementation of protection recommendations, in order to preserve its status on the World Heritage List. During the meetings, the country’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations for the protection of the Ohrid region was reaffirmed, along with readiness to continue cooperation with the Republic of Albania within existing mechanisms, with the aim of ensuring long-term and sustainable protection of the region,” Nikoloski said.
