Council of Public Prosecutors to provide opinion on chief prosecutor candidates next week
- The Council of Public Prosecutors has scheduled a session for Tuesday, February 17, during which it will provide its opinion on the candidates for new chief prosecutor.
Skopje, 11 February 2026 (MIA) - The Council of Public Prosecutors has scheduled a session for Tuesday, February 17, during which it will provide its opinion on the candidates for new chief prosecutor.
According to the legislation, the Council has 15 days to provide a positive or negative opinion to the Government, after which the Government forwards one of the candidates who have received a position opinion to Parliament.
On February 3, the Government adopted a conclusion on the five candidates for chief prosecutor and delivered it to the Council.
The names of the candidates have not been officially revealed, but those reported to be in the running are current acting chief prosecutor Anita Topolova-Isajlovska, prosecutor Lenche Ristovska, Criminal Court judge Nenad Saveski, former head of the Criminal Court Vladimir Panchevski, and prosecutor Lidija Raichevikj.
The procedure for the election of a new chief prosecutor comes after Ljupcho Kocevski resigned the post in December 2025. Prosecutor Topolova-Isajlovska has been serving as acting chief prosecutor since his departure, but her term cannot last more than six months.
