Skopje, 11 November 2025 (MIA) - This year, Skopje will get the New Year's Eve celebration that every metropolis deserves, Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski said Tuesday.  

"The program did not include funds for New Year's decorations, but with the budget rebalance on Friday, we will provide funds for decorating the capital and organizing a proper New Year's Eve celebration for the citizens. Thus, Skopje will finally be given a full decorative treatment, just as our citizens deserve," Gjorgjievski said in a TV appearance at the national broadcaster.

As regards Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski's call to report any indications of abuses in the City of Skopje, Gjorgjievski said a meeting has already been held with representatives of the Financial Police Office, adding that in the interest of the investigation, he could not provide further details.  

"I stand behind all the facts I presented to the public. Around 500 people have been fired from public city enterprises because of absenteeism, i.e. they have violated the Law on Labour Relations and discipline in the enterprise. These are not people who will simply be replaced by new ones, because they were allowed to abuse the institutions and bring us to the state we are in today in the City of Skopje," said Gjorgjievski, adding that he wants full responsibility from everyone involved.
