Berlin, 13 November 2024 (dpa/MIA) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Wednesday said he is "very happy" about the agreement reached by the country's main political parties to hold early elections on February 23.
Speaking in the German parliament in Berlin, Scholz said he was 'grateful' about the deal, one week after the collapse of his three-party coalition.
The chancellor confirmed he would lodge a vote of confidence on December 11, enabling the vote to be held in the Bundestag - the country's lower house - on December 16.
The move is a necessary step to allow President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to formally dissolve the chamber and call for elections.
