Skopje, 2 April 2025 (MIA) — To mark World Autism Awareness Day, April 2, Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi hosted Wednesday a group of children, parents, teachers and representatives of local autism associations, according to an official press release.

Gashi said such meetings were valuable "for building a society with equal opportunities for all," the release said. The meetings "encourage listening and learning, and above all, highlight the importance of accepting and respecting diversity."

"Every child who was among us today showed us that each individual, regardless of our differences, has their own unique world, their own colors, infinite potential and a soul that deserves a chance to fly," Gashi is quoted as saying in the release. 

"The beauty of life lies in the richness of our diversity," he added.

According to the release, the parliament speaker listened attentively to parents and teachers who spoke about their concerns and challenges. He also promised them he would do everything in his power to raise the standards of living for people with autism. 

Gashi also said Parliament "remains open to listening and better understanding the needs and potential of people with autism." mr/
