Former MIA director and journalist Zhivko Georgievski passes away
- Zhivko Georgievski, former director of the Media Information Agency (MIA), journalist and foreign correspondent, has passed away at the age of 79.
Skopje, 14 May 2026 (MIA) - Zhivko Georgievski, former director of the Media Information Agency (MIA), journalist and foreign correspondent, has passed away at the age of 79.
He served as director of the agency from 1998 to 2002. He also held the position of director of Radio Ohrid in the mid-1970s and worked as a correspondent for Tanjug and other media outlets in the former Yugoslavia.
Georgievski began his journalism career as a high school student at the Vecer newspaper, continuing at the youth editorial office of Radio Ohrid and other media outlets, particularly after moving to Belgrade for his studies.
After leaving Ohrid, he served for many years as head of the Macedonian editorial desk of the Tanjug news agency. He also worked for several years in Jakarta, Indonesia as a correspondent.
Following his return, he was appointed director of the Tanjug editorial office in Macedonia.
Prior to the breakup of SFR Yugoslavia, he founded the Macedonian Press Bureau and later served as director of the Media Information Agency (MIA), where he remained until his retirement.
Zhivko Georgievski will be buried on Friday at the city cemetery in Ohrid.
