Family of young woman killed by drunk driver demands justice at Kavadarci protest

Kavadarci, 2 February 2025 (MIA) - There must be justice for Frosina and this must never happen to anyone else again, Rosica Kulakova, the sister of the young woman killed by a drunk driver in Skopje said at a protest Sunday in Kavadarci. A protest is set to be held in Skopje as well, at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Frosina Kulakova was the latest person killed when crossing the Partizanski Odredi boulevard in downtown Skopje, she was killed by 20-year-old Vasil Jovanov from Skopje, who drove drunk, didn’t have a license and ran a red light while Frosina was crossing the street.

The suspect for Frosina's murder, Vasil Jovanov, has been placed in 30-day detention. He had previous records of drug trafficking and another traffic accident, but did not serve time.

“We seek justice for Frosina not only from the murderer, but also his father. We want his father, Zoran Jovanov, to be locked up, to be held responsible, as well as judge Daniela Aleksovska-Stojanovska. Both have failed to come out and express their condolences to the family but are instead hiding like cowards and deleting their social media profiles,” Frosina’s sister said at the protest in Kavadarci.

Organizers Goran Vasilov and Viktorija Nedeva read out a speech by Frosina’s friends at the protest.

Protesters honored two other victims, students Viktorija Nikolova and Frosina Cekovska who were killed crossing the same boulevard on January 20, 2022, and April 3, 2015, respectively. Viktorija Nikolova’s father was present at the protest in Kavadarci.

A protest is also set to be held in Skopje at 5 p.m. on Sunday, near the place of the accident.
