Energy cooperation with Azerbaijan deepens, gasification in focus of talks

Skopje, 14 November 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, as part of the official delegation led by President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova to the Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, attended a meeting with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. Talks focused on the potential for cooperation in the area of energy, particularly gasification.
"Participants in the meeting exchanged views on the overall bilateral relations, assessed as friendly and with a significant potential to deepen in various sectors, with an emphasis on energy. The Macedonian delegation highlighted Macedonia's interest in diversifying energy sources and strengthening economic cooperation with Azerbaijan," the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said in a press release.
The Macedonian and Azerbaijani sides, it adds, expressed satisfaction with the recently signed memorandum of understanding between the energy companies of the two countries, which aims to contribute to Macedonia's energy stability.
"Interlocutors expressed readiness for further cooperation through concrete bilateral agreements, and President Aliyev reaffirmed Azerbaijan's readiness to participate in potential gasification projects in Macedonia," reads the press release.
