Skopje, 8 March 2025 (MIA) – To mark International Women’s Day and the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, UN Women North Macedonia, in collaboration with the Post Office of North Macedonia, has unveiled a special commemorative postmark. This symbolic gesture underscores the country’s commitment to gender equality and the continued pursuit of equal opportunities for women and girls.
The postmark, which will be used exclusively on 8 March, creation of the talented designer and feminist, Nita Hadzihamza Gashi, features: a woman’s raised fist—a symbol of determination, resilience, and the demand for women's rights—alongside the number 30, signifying three decades of progress and ongoing action since the adoption of the Beijing Platform for Action.
“The Beijing Declaration is the foundation for shaping policies that advance gender equality globally and in our country,” said Vesna Ivanovikj-Castarede, Head of Office, UN Women North Macedonia.
“This commemorative postal stamp honours the commitments made since the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing and serves as a reminder of the progress achieved, as well as the challenges that remain. It highlights the need for a comprehensive approach and targeted interventions to overcome barriers and accelerate progress toward gender equality and women's empowerment, ensuring the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.”
The initiative serves as a tribute to all women and girls, reinforcing the collective responsibility to uphold their rights and amplify their voices. The postmark’s design visually communicates the strength of the feminist movement and the importance of maintaining momentum in achieving transformative change, the UN Women press release reads.
“This postmark is a valuable reminder that gender equality is not just a women's issue—it is a collective responsibility. Thirty years after the Beijing Declaration, we must continue to overcome barriers, reshape policies, and ensure that every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive. Progress for women is progress for all,” noted Dimitar Dimitrovski, Communications and Knowledge Management Officer, UN Women North Macedonia. “With this postmark, we honour all those who paved the way, those who continue to fight, and future generations who deserve a more just and equitable world.”
As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, this initiative encourages reflection on the achievements of the past 30 years while calling for renewed commitment and action to ensure that no woman or girl is left behind.
