Skopje, 8 January 2026 (MIA) - The Cinematheque of Macedonia has presented a rich program of screenings for January, in the year that marks 50 years since the institution’s founding.

The Cinematheque said its January program symbolically reflects its mission: preserving, presenting, and contextualizing film heritage, while creating space for contemporary voices and new generations of audiences – in the year it celebrates its 50th anniversary.

As part of its January program, the Cinematheque highlighted its Cinema Mornings as part of which animated films will be screened for young audiences, aiming to introduce cinema as art from an early age.  

The program also features selections from the Kinenova festival, offering fresh perspectives and contemporary practices, along with documentaries such as Yugo Florida and Funk YU, which explore cultural and social issues in the region.

Domestic production is represented with screenings of the latest Macedonian films “Tomorrow Morning”, directed by Jani Bojadzi, and “Everybody Calls Redjo”, a co‑production with Kosovo and Albania.

The January program will conclude with a screening of Wim Wenders’ “Wings of Desire”. The film's screening during the Cinematheque’s jubilee year carries additional symbolic weight, reminding of the continuity of cinematic art and its power to endure beyond time, the Cinematheque said.

“Half a century after its founding, the Cinematheque of Macedonia is not merely a venue for screenings, but a living cultural organism that actively shapes film consciousness, preserves collective memory, and creates space for dialogue between the past, present, and future of cinema. January 2026 is yet another confirmation that this institution remains an irreplaceable pillar of cultural life and one of the most important guardians of film art in the country,” the Cinematheque said.
