Bozhinovska at Delphi Economic Forum: Country positioning itself as regional energy hub

Skopje, 23 April 2026 (MIA) - Minister of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska participated Thursday in the Engineering the Infrastructure of Energy Security panel discussion at the Delphi Economic Forum, as part of which high government representatives and energy leaders discussed the future of energy security in the region.

In her address at the panel discussion, Minister Bozhinovska stressed the country is entering a new stage of energy positioning.

“Today, we are consciously positioning ourselves as a regional energy hub connecting markets, sources, and partners,” Bozhinovska said.

She presented a strategy based on three key pillars: the interconnector with Greece as direct access to alternative sources of gas and LNG terminals; cooperation with Serbia, which is opening up a northern corridor and enabling two-way flow; as well as the partnership with the United States through the LNG initiative, strengthening energy independence.

“Energy policy without infrastructure remains just a declaration. With the construction of these corridors we are reducing vulnerability, creating more competitive prices, and positioning ourselves as a transit country which adds value,” the Minister said.

The Minister stressed the country’s new role isn’t just about transit, but also about stabilizing the broader region.

“We don’t want to be a peripheral market - but a reliable partner in the European energy network,” she added.

Regarding the energy transition, Bozhinovska said the country’s approach is pragmatic and focused on security.

“There is no energy transition without security and there is no security without diversification. Geography by itself is not an advantage unless it is transformed into policy. Our goal is to become a factor of stability on the regional electricity market,” Bozhinovska stressed.

According to the Minister, by strengthening the southern and northern energy corridors, North Macedonia is positioning itself as an active participant in the stabilization of the region’s energy flows. She stressed the country is building an energy system that is diversified, connected, and strategically relevant.
