Aleksandar Eftimovski's environmentally friendly, interactive 'Whirlpool' at City Park this weekend

Skopje, 12 April 2024 (MIA) — Macedonian artist and sculptor Aleksandar Eftimovski's "Whirlpool," an interactive work of art powered by renewable energy sources, will be exhibited at the City Park on Saturday.

 

The environmentally friendly exhibit is organized by the Climate Action Network CAN Europe, Europe’s leading NGO coalition fighting climate change and promoting sustainable climate, energy and development policies throughout Europe. The network has recently focused on the decarbonisation and just energy transition in the Western Balkans.

 

Eftimovski's "Whirlpool" will be displayed as part of CAN Europe's efforts to engage local citizens and raise their awareness of the need to transition from coal-based energy systems to renewable energy sources.

 

The artwork consists of a wind turbine made of recycled material. Visitors will be encouraged to learn more about wind-generated power while also charging their mobile phones.

 

According to organizers, the two-day exhibition aims to highlight the solar and wind potential in North Macedonia, Serbia and in the entire Western Balkans, which could result in a more democratic, decarbonized, decentralized and resilient energy production, without fossil fuels.

 

"CAN Europe's comprehensive research on the current barriers to the implementation of solar and wind projects in North Macedonia and Serbia has shown there is some progress in establishing institutional and legislative frameworks aimed at strengthening the use of renewables, but challenges in putting them into full use still exist," organizers said.

 

The exhibit will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday at the Skopje City Park, near Lake Ezerce.


Next weekend, "Whirlpool" will travel to Serbia, where it will be shown at Belgrade's Kalemegdan Park. mr/
