Tonči Stančić's 'Adriatic Miniatures' on display in Skopje

Skopje, 5 February 2026 (MIA) — Croatian photographer Tonči Stančić's photo exhibition “Adriatic Miniatures” will open at the Cultural and Information Center at 6:30 pm.

According to organizers, the light in Stančić’s works is "the main protagonist" and his photos "are not just depictions of nature, but studies of light and texture."

"The author approaches the motif with almost architectural precision, often using wide shots to emphasize the grandeur of the sea and the muffled cry of the tangled vegetation that defies the hurricane gusts of the Jugo," they wrote.

Described by critics as "the master of detail with a traveler’s eye," the Croatian artist is "not an ordinary observer who passively records reality; he, like a modern alchemist, transforms it into a subjective vision, offering us a 'view of the aesthetics of the elusive,' erasing the boundaries between what is seen and what is felt."

In "Adriatic Miniatures," each frame is said to be "a visual haiku, concise in emotion and lavish in meaning."

"The author does not just capture objects, but hunts for the elusive – the silence between two breaths, the flickering of a shadow on the wall and the atmosphere that borders on the oneiric," Macedonian visual artist Vlaho Brangjolica wrote.

"Through the play of light and shadow, contrasts and colors, these photographs become mirrors of our own inner landscapes, inviting the observer to slow down and find the universal in each detail.

"These are not ordinary factual notes, but authentic paintings of light," he wrote, adding that the photographs were "minimalist visual stories the author skillfully places before us, the viewers, in his own simple and appealing way."

"This exhibition is a triumph of aesthetics that reminds us that nature is the supreme artist, and the photographer is only a humble medium who translates its beauty into eternity."
