Saudi oil output capacity hit after attacks on facilities

Tehran, 10 April 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Saudi Arabia's oil production capacity has fallen by about 600,000 barrels per day following attacks on facilities, refineries and pipelines, state news agency SPA reported on Thursday, citing an Energy Ministry source.

The capacity of the important East-West pipeline, which allows crude to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, has also dropped by around 700,000 barrels per day after a pumping station was hit, the report said.

The roughly 1,200-kilometre pipeline typically carries between 5 million and 7 million barrels per day, according to media reports. A barrel of oil contains 159 litres.

Saudi Arabia produces around 10 million barrels of oil per day, making it the world's second-largest producer after the United States.

Attacks on the country also damaged liquefied natural gas facilities, SPA said, adding that one person was killed and seven workers were injured.

Iranian missile and drone strikes have repeatedly hit targets in Gulf states in recent weeks. A two-week ceasefire in the Iran conflict is currently in place.
