Davos, Switzerland, 22 January 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday accused his European allies of providing too little support for his country in its defence against Russia's nearly four-year invasion.
"Europe loves to discuss the future, but avoids taking action today - action that defines what kind of future we will have," Zelensky said in a speech at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss Alpine resort of Davos.
He also took aim at NATO, saying the trans-Atlantic defence alliance exists because of the belief that the United States will act in the event of an attack on one of its members. "But no one has really seen the alliance in action," he added.
Meanwhile, he said, Russia benefits from components from companies in Europe, the United States and Taiwan.
Zelensky said Europe needs a united armed forces to defend itself.
Shortly before his speech, Zelensky spoke to US President Donald Trump. The US president described the meeting as "good," but called the effort to end the war launched by Russia nearly four years ago an "ongoing process."
Zelensky later announced that US, Ukrainian and Russian representatives will hold three-way talks on ending the war in the United Arab Emirates over the next two days.
