Madrid, 22 November 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Two miners have died in the collapse of a coal mine tunnel in north-west Spain, local media reported on Friday, citing emergency services.

The accident at a mine near the town of Vega de Rengos in the Asturias region also left one person temporarily missing, although it was later reported that he managed to escape safely.

One of the mine's tunnels collapsed about 1.5 kilometres from the entrance.

The CCOO trade union said that the mine complied with all safety regulations, broadcaster RTVE reported.

The cause of the accident was not initially clear.

It is the second mining accident with fatalities in Asturias this year. In March, five workers were killed in an explosion in a coal mine near Degaña.
