Toshkovski calls for urgent reorganization of entire crisis management system

Skopje, 24 July 2024 (MIA) - The Steering Committee for Coordination and Management of the Crisis Management System decided at a session on Wednesday to recommend the Government to urgently make a decision on reorganizing the entire system in order to adequately deal with any crisis that would arise in the country.

Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski announced the decision, pointing out that after the wildfires in the country in the past 13 days, it has become clear that such a system does not exist.

"The fact is that the Crisis Management Center (CMC) and all other institutions operate within capacities that we have inherited, and the fact is that it is inadequate and untimely according to the needs. Those are the resources, those are the people, those are the possibilities, but the fact is that we inherited a system that is ruined, and we must fundamentally reform it," Toshkovski said after the meeting.

The crisis situation with the wildfires that engulfed parts of the country was on the agenda of Wednesday's session.

After the meeting, CMC head Stojanche Angelov reported on the current situation with active wildfires, as well as on other issues.

The session was chaired by Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski, with Minister of Defence Vlado Misajlovski and Minister of Health Arben Taravari, as well as head of the Risk and Hazard Assessment Group Stojanche Angelov in attendance. The session was also attended by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Economy, Cvetan Tripunovski, and director of the Public Enterprise for the Management of State Forests “National Forests”, Zdravko Trajanov.

Deputy PM and Minister of Transport and Communications Aleksandar Nikoloski and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski did not attend the session.
