Siljanovska Davkova - De Croo: Strong support from Belgium for Macedonian EU integration

Skopje, 12 November 2024 (MIA) - President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova met with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, Alexander De Croo, on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Interlocutors exchanged views on the overall bilateral relations, with talks focusing on the Macedonian aspirations for membership in the European Union, Siljanovska Davkova's Office said in a press release.
Belgian Prime Minister De Croo pointed out that the country can count on strong Belgian support, as according to Brussels, it has made huge progress, and now it was the EU's turn to deliver.
Highlighting good and friendly relations between the two countries, President Siljanovska Davkova stressed the need to intensify communication at the highest level.
In the context of the EU accession process, Siljanovska Davkova pointed to the need to open accession negotiations, with the aim of mobilizing institutions and focusing on reforms and standards, especially on the rule of law and the fight against corruption.
President Siljanovska Davkova underscored the expectation on the Macedonian side for a fair process of EU accession that will respect the national pride of the citizens and will be conducted in a way that does not deeply disturb their sense of national identity.
