SDSM least credible to speak about Gov’t’s international activities, relations with Trump administration: PM
- The SDSM and DUI coalition, which over the past seven years wasn’t picky about the ways it could degrade and humiliate Macedonia and enrich itself on the backs of the citizens, has the least credibility to speak about our international activities and relations with President Trump’s administration, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Wednesday in response to SDSM leader Venko Filipche’s statement that the country’s foreign policy is “without compass” and has no defined priorities.

Negotino, 26 February 2025 (MIA) - The SDSM and DUI coalition, which over the past seven years wasn’t picky about the ways it could degrade and humiliate Macedonia and enrich itself on the backs of the citizens, has the least credibility to speak about our international activities and relations with President Trump’s administration, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Wednesday in response to SDSM leader Venko Filipche’s statement that the country’s foreign policy is “without compass” and has no defined priorities.
Mickoski said in the past the opposition had accused him of being anti-NATO and anti-US or pro-Russian, while now, he said, they find issue in the “exceptionally good cooperation” with the new US administration.
“And yes, we co-sponsored that resolution alongside several other countries – Israel, Hungary and Georgia. I will remind the Macedonian public that this is a binding resolution since it was adopted by the [UN] Security Council, where the other members who are permanent, as well as the non-permanent ones, did not vote against it, which means they supported the resolution that the Macedonian Government co-sponsored,” Mickoski said.
Speaking about the vote on the US resolution in the United Nations General Assembly which was amended to clearly reference that Russia invaded Ukraine, Mickoski said the Macedonian Government chose to abstain in “full coordination” with the United States, who also abstained.
“I regret that the view of politics from the warm and sandy beaches is not the same as the view from Macedonia. Perhaps some of the opposition leaders are still living on the warm beaches and are looking at this from that lens. Unfortunately, they are yet to wake up to the fact they are in the opposition and will stay there for a long time to come, while the citizens trust the Government led by VMRO-DPMNE, VLEN and ZNAM,” Mickoski said.
At a press conference Wednesday, SDSM leader Venko Filipche said the Government, with its vote on the UN resolution on Ukraine, has sent a message that its foreign policy is improvised. He said the Government added to the confusion by accepting to co-sponsor the US resolution before voting in abstention.
