Public administration reform a key priority of Macedonia's EU integration bid: minister
- “Modernizing and improving public administration is the backbone of a functioning public sector, the driving force of every democratic society. The formation of the Ministry for Public Administration is a strategic response of the government to accelerate reforms and improve the efficiency and transparency of institutions,” Minchev said speaking at a presentation of the 2024 SIGMA Monitoring Report.

Skopje, 4 February 2025 (MIA) – Minister for Public Administration Goran Minchev speaking Tuesday at an event in Skopje highlighted public administration reforms as being one of the key priorities in the EU accession process.
“Modernizing and improving public administration is the backbone of a functioning public sector, the driving force of every democratic society. The formation of the Ministry for Public Administration is a strategic response of the government to accelerate reforms and improve the efficiency and transparency of institutions,” Minchev said speaking at a presentation of the 2024 SIGMA Monitoring Report.
The SIGMA Report, he said, is an important tool to assess the results so far and identify areas that need improvement, the Ministry for Public Administration said.
The Ministry, Minchev added, works on implementing measures from the public administration reform strategy with an accent on introducing professionalism and a coherent salary system.
“The citizens have to trust the institutions and see that they work in their interest. Reforms have to be inclusive and the policy creation process should be transparent,” Minchev said adding that new legislation is being prepared, including a law on civil servants, law on public sector employees and a law on professional development.
He also announced the new law on inspection supervision, expected to introduce structural changes improving inspection services and cutting administrative costs.
In the context of European integration, the Minister said that European Commission’s criticism on political support and coordination of reforms will be taken into account to improve the process, said the press release.
“We’re thankful for SIGMA for their continuing support. This partnership is key to build capacities and implementing European standards,” Minister Minchev stated saying he was confident that the goal of modern and efficient public administration will be met with joint efforts.
