PRO reform aimed at detecting unpaid taxes, improving services

Skopje, 17 July 2024 (MIA) - We are heading for a big reform process of redesigning processes, their automation and digitization, thus changing the way in which salaries are calculated and taxes are collected, said new Public Revenue Office (PRO) director Elena Petrova on Wednesday.

"This means that instead of unrelated systems, the calculation and payment of taxes will be carried out through an interoperable tax eco-system, as part of the taxpayers daily operations," Petrova told reporters.

Considering the collection of tax revenues, the reform would result in data being available in real time, not as historical data upon the end of the taxation period.

"In this way, PRO can monitor risks and deviations in the calculation of taxes, ensuring the calculation of accurate tax amounts in real time," added Petrova.

The availability of PRO data in real time, she added, will also ensure swift countering with various forms of tax evasion.

"Instead of citizens getting the service at counters and through personalized contacts with tax officers, we will introduce a new approach whereby services will be available through electronic systems, which would ensure increased consistency and reduce the time needed to obtain services, i.e. higher standard of service quality delivered by the PRO to the taxpayers," noted Petrova.
