President, PM extend wishes on St. Sava

Skopje, 27 January 2025 (MIA) — President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski extended their best wishes to the Macedonian Serbian community on the holiday of Saint Sava, wishing them good health, happiness, prosperity and spiritual serenity.

Higlighting the importance of St. Sava for Serbian history, President Siljanovska Davkova said the legacy of the first Serbian Archbishop transcended national borders and was respected by the entire Orthodox Slavic world.

"The holiday dedicated to St. Sava is a wonderful opportunity to affirm the importance of culture and enlightenment as well as an occasion to strengthen and deepen cooperation and communication among ourselves and with our neighbors," Siljanovska Davkova said.

"It is the Serbian community in Macedonia and the Macedonian community in Serbia that provide an additional motive for building and nurturing close and friendly relations between the two countries," she noted.

Prime Minister Mickoski recalled that the holiday of St. Sava has been celebrated nationwide for the past 18 years, after it was declared a National Holiday of the Serbs in Macedonia on Feb. 8, 2007, through amendments to the Law on Holidays.

"This shows mutual respect and trust as well as good cooperation and nurturing of relations between the Serbian and Macedonian people," PM Mickoski wrote.

"Your contribution to social and public life has shown that together, united, honoring diversity, cultures and traditions, we can transform Macedonia going forward and provide a better and more secure future for citizens," he added.

Offering his heartfelt wishes on the National Day of Serbs in Macedonia, the prime minister said he hoped all members of the Serbian community would spend the St. Sava holiday in harmony and joy, filled with love and happiness. mr/
