Washington, 29 April 2026 (dpa/MIA) - The war on Iran has so far cost the United States approximately $25 billion, a senior Pentagon official said on Wednesday.
The estimate includes all expenditure incurred since the start of what the White House is calling Operation Epic Fury, Jules W Hurst III said during a House of Representatives hearing.
Most of the sum has been spent on ammunition.
Hurst said the Pentagon would request a supplementary budget through the White House to fund operations against Iran “as soon as we have a complete assessment of the costs of the conflict.”
The US and Israel began their joint attacks on Iran on February 28. Tehran responded with counter-attacks on Israel and Gulf states and has also largely blocked the Strait of Hormuz, vital for global trade.
The US military responded with its own blockade, imposed on vessels heading for an Iranian port as their point of departure or destination.
While a ceasefire is currently in place between the warring parties, no end to the conflict seems imminent after talks stalled between Washington and Tehran.
