Beijing, 15 May 2026 (dpa/MIA) – US President Donald Trump, who is currently on a visit to China, has said that President Xi Jinping told him he "would love to" help in finding a way to end the Iran war.

"He would like to see a deal made," Trump said in an interview with Fox News.

"And he did offer, he said 'if I can be of any help at all, I would like to be of help,'" Trump said following talks with Xi in Beijing.

Trump also said that Xi would "like to see the [Strait of Hormuz] open."

China is considered the biggest buyer of Iranian oil, meaning it has been particularly affected by the closure of the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman.

Trump also said that Xi had agreed to stop providing military goods to Iran. There was initially no confirmation from Beijing of Trump's claims.

China is believed to be one of Iran's most important suppliers of military equipment alongside Russia.

In an interview aired previously, Secretary of State Marco Rubio told NBC News that Trump had not asked Xi "for anything."

"We're not asking for China's help, we don't need their help," Rubio said. "We raised the issue to make clear what our position is, and to make it clear so they understand."
