Skopje, 21 January 2025 (MIA) - The Parliament approved the Law on Child Protection Tuesday afternoon with 65 votes in favour and 17 against, after President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova refused to sign the decree for its promulgation. Under the Badinter principle, 12 MPs voted for and six against.
A total of six amendments were submitted for this Law, of which four, submitted by SDSM and Levica, were rejected, while two, submitted by VMRO-DPMNE and ZNAM, were accepted.
After the adoption of the Law on Child Protection, President Siljanovska Davkova will be required to sign the decree.
Her explanation pointed out that the adopted amendments to the Law include several contentious provisions. She mentioned that she had carried out a detailed analysis and consulted experts, after which she requested a review of the provisions in articles 9 and 10 of the law.
Silanovska Davkova in her explanation said that the disputed articles 9 and 10 of this law should be re-examined in the light of the fifth amendment of the Constitution and the existing Law on the use of languages.
The President also referred to the provision in Article 182, paragraph 5 of the Law on Child Protection, which covers the procedures for obtaining, renewing, and revoking work licenses, as well as the form and content of the license template set by the minister.
