Over 12 dead after bus carrying pupils plunges into Colombian ravine

Mexico City, 15 December 2025 (dpa/MIA) - A bus carrying pupils on a graduation trip has plunged into an 80-metre-deep ravine in Colombia.
"More than a dozen people" lost their lives, according to the governor of the Antioquia region in the north-west of the South American country. Around 20 people were injured.
Without citing specific sources, the media reported at least 16 fatalities.
The pupils from the 11th and final grade were on their way back from a stay at the Caribbean coast beach to Bello near Medellín when the accident occurred.
According to media reports, around 40 passengers were travelling on the bus, which crashed in a rural area near Segovia.
The injured were taken to hospital. According to official information, most of them are between 16 and 18 years old.
"Today is a sad day for Antioquia," said the governor.
The bus left the road for reasons yet to be clarified, media reports said.
The national traffic safety authority is investigating what led to the accident.
