Zagreb, 20 November 2025 (Hina/MIA) - Zagreb police have arrested a young person who is under investigation in connection with the Vjesnik skyscraper fire that broke out Monday evening, the Zagreb Police Department reported Thursday.

"We can confirm that the ongoing criminal investigation covers several young people, one of whom has been arrested and is currently under investigation," the police said.

They said it was crucial in the early stages of the investigation to promptly gather information from all individuals who may have relevant insights about the incident. Public disclosure of such information at this stage is considered an aggravating factor, the police added.

"This can hinder police work and poses a risk that sensitive information reaches individuals who need to be included in the investigation and who have been identified during this initial phase," the police said. Prioritizing the effectiveness of the criminal investigation, they said they would provide further updates as soon as circumstances allow.

Several media outlets reported Wednesday that the police had questioned two young people due to suspicions they might have information regarding the fire.

The Vjesnik building, which once housed the offices of the now-defunct Vjesnik daily, was heavily damaged in the fire that broke out Monday night.
