New 1,200kw-powered capacities producing energy from renewables: ERC chief

Skopje, 7 November 2025 (MIA) - As of October, there are 1,200kW-powered capacities producing energy from renewables, built over the past four years, Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) president Marko Bislimoski told a regional conference on green transformation in the Western Balkans, held in Tirana.

"Solar energy production is a reality, the numbers are a reality but the period ahead is full of challenges, one being balancing the system of energy produced from renewables. At this stage, we have to stimulate investments in energy capacities that produce base energy. Of course, the use of batteries has its role, but it is necessary to realize investments that will replace electricity production generated from coal, gas or biomass," said Bislimoski.

Digitalization of administrative processes when obtaining licenses and documents as a prerequisite for more investments was in the focus of the conference panel that included Bislimoski.

Conference participants said the energy transition will be successful if households, not only the industry, feel the effects. Measures and reforms towards smart energy green future must be the objective for regional policies, for the purpose of easier integration in the European energy market, the ERC said in a press release.
