Minister Bozhinovska and Greek Ambassador Philippidou discuss gas interconnector, energy market

Skopje, 4 February 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, Sanja Bozhinovska, held on Tuesday a working meeting with Greek Ambassador, Sophia Philippidou, discussing deepening of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, particularly projects of regional importance, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said in a press release.
Bozhinovska and Philippidou stressed the importance of the construction of the gas interconnector with Greece, which is to contribute to energy stability and diversification of energy sources in the region. Minister Bozhinovska pointed out that this project is of strategic importance for the country and will enable a more efficient supply of natural gas.
Talks also tackled market coupling initiatives with Greece, aimed at integrating the Macedonian electricity market into the single European market. The Minister noted that the National Electricity Market Operator (MEMO) has introduced the euro as a trading currency in the first quarter of 2025, which is a key step towards such integration.
Ambassador Philippidou highlighted the need to strengthen cooperation between the stock exchanges of the two countries, adding that it would bring significant benefits to the economies of the two countries and the entire region.
