Skopje, 10 November 2025 (MIA) - A swearing-in ceremony of cadets and course students took place at the Skopje-based Military Academy "General Mihajlo Apostolski" on Monday. Fifty-nine candidates were sworn in - 31 cadets and 28 students in the course for officers and staff members - with five coming from Bosnia and Herzegovina and two from Montenegro.

President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova highlighted the significance of the oath and the role of the future officers.

"With this oath, you are becoming a part of a large and united army family, promising before all that you will defend the Macedonian independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. I know that the oath is for you, as it is for me, not only a collection of patriotic words but a firm expression of resolve, perseverance and commitment," said President Siljanovska Davkova.

She added that the future officers enter the Army in a time of rising security challenges.

"As future officers of the Macedonian and the NATO army, you are expected to respect and practice the highest professional and moral standards in managing all types of threats - traditional, asymmetric and hybrid - both physical and cyber. Nevertheless, you cannot neglect or forget the ethical and moral values as well," noted Siljanovska Davkova.

Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski said the selection of the cadets is of enormous importance for the country's security.

"Today, we are marking the beginning of a new chapter for all of you young and motivated patriots, who have chosen to join the Army. I congratulate you on answering the call that means honor, responsibility, discipline and commitment to service. Rising security challenges and threats are emphasizing the need for all of you to strengthen our common security," said Misajlovski.

He added that the Academy is a symbol of excellence, a higher education institution that "has been producing leaders over the past 30 years".

Academy Dean, Colonel Nenad Taneski, referred to the institution's tradition and mission, saying the 29th generation of cadets has pledged its commitment to the country's flag.

"This year we are observing the Academy's 30th anniversary. This jubilee is not just a number, it is history, tradition and continuity. It is a proof that our Academy is developing alongside the Army and the country, but that it also remains faithful to its core mission of creating generations ready to defend and serve the homeland with knowledge and honor," said Dean Taneski.

The event was attended by Army Generals, senior officials from the Defense Ministry and Army, representatives of the military-diplomatic corps, friends and families of the cadets and course students.
