Mickoski: Gov’t to appoint administrators in municipalities where election turnout threshold not met

Skopje, 11 November 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski reiterated Tuesday that the government will appoint administrators in municipalities where mayors weren’t elected at the 2025 local elections since the turnout threshold wasn’t met.

“We will absolutely do that in line with the law, and to do this we first need to get a notice from the State Election Commission (SEC) that the electoral process is over and that the elections were not successful in these four municipalities, and then the government will appoint administrators,” Mickoski said, quizzed about potential appointments of administrators in the municipalities of Gostivar, Vrapchishte, Centar Zhupa, and Mavrovo Rostushe.

According to the Electoral Code, if mayors are not elected for any reason, the SEC has to notify the Government within 15 days of the end of the electoral process. After receiving the notice, the government has 15 days to name an administrator to carry out the mayoral duties in the municipality until the election of new mayors.

Mayoral elections will be repeated in Gostivar, Vrapchishte, Centar Zhupa, and Mavrovo Rostushe after the requirement of a one-thirds turnout was not met during the October 19 vote.
