Mexhiti: US remains strategic partner in strengthening democratic institutions

Skopje, 12 March 2026 (MIA) — The United States remains a vital strategic partner in strengthening North Macedonia's institutions and promoting Euro-Atlantic reforms, Chair Municipality Mayor Izet Mexhiti said Thursday after meeting with U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Nicole Varnes to discuss domestic developments and the rule of law.
According to a press release from Mexhiti's office, meeting participants highlighted the importance of continued U.S. support for the country’s democratic processes.

"The United States remains a strategic partner and an important ally for North Macedonia," Mexhiti said.
"Their support is of great importance for strengthening democratic institutions, the development of the country and preserving stability in the region."

The meeting reaffirmed the bilateral partnership as a key factor in aligning the nation with international standards and fostering institutional growth. mr/
