Local elections runoff kicks off

Skopje, 2 November 2025 (MIA) - Voting for the second round of the eighth local elections since the country’s independence began Sunday at 7 am. The State Election Commission (SEC) confirmed to MIA that polling stations are open.

Voting is taking place for mayors in 32 municipalities and in the City of Skopje at 1,771 polling stations. By 7 pm, 1,013,375 voters will be able to exercise their right to vote, including 474,304 voters in the City of Skopje.

Inmates, people in house arrest, sick and infirm homebound people, and people in non-family facilities casted their ballots on Saturday.

SEC announced that its preliminary assessment of the voting process and voter turnout will be shared at a press conference scheduled for 9:30 am.

The State Election Commission is expected to provide the preliminary unofficial results of the second round of local elections at approximately 11 pm.

The October 19 local elections ended with 44 mayors and councils elected in almost all municipalities, except in Shuto Orizari, where re-voting will take place.

There will be no voting in Gostivar, Vrapchishte, Mavrovo-Rostushe, and Centar Zhupa due to low voter turnout. Voting in these municipalities will take place within 60 days after the conclusion of the local elections.
