Hosts Morocco and Senegal advance into Afcon semi-finals

London, 10 January 2026 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) - Brahim Diaz continued his record of scoring in every 2025 Africa Cup of Nations game as tournament hosts Morocco moved into the semi-finals by beating Cameroon 2-0 on Friday.

The Real Madrid striker struck in each of Morocco’s first four games and he opened the scoring in Rabat in the 26th minute, getting the final touch after Ayoub El Kaabi had headed towards goal from a corner.

Morocco made sure of victory after 74 minutes as a free-kick to the back post was controlled by Ismael Saibari, who drilled a low left-foot shot in past Cameroon goalkeeper Devis Epassy.

Morocco will take on either Algeria or Nigeria, who contest the last remaining quarter-final on Saturday in Marrakesh.

Earlier in Tanger, Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half strike was enough for Senegal to earn a 1-0 victory over 10-man Mali in the first quarter-final.

The moment of the match came in the 27th minute when Everton forward Ndiaye pounced on a loose ball inside the box and slotted into an empty goal to give Senegal a lead that Mali failed to recover.

Things got harder for Mali on the stroke of half time when Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma was shown a red card following a reckless challenge.

Mali tested Edouard Mendy on two separate occasions in the second period through Abdoulaye Diaby and Lassine Sinayoko but Senegal held on to set up a last-four tie against either Ivory Coast or Egypt.
