Government to appoint administrators in municipalities where mayors not elected: PM

Skopje, 7 November 2025 (MIA) - The Government will appoint administrators in those municipalities where mayors have not been elected, but only after the State Election Commission (SEC) declares the electoral process officially over, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Friday.

"SEC needs to finish the process and then provide a report to the Government, which I expect to happen next week. Afterwards, SEC will inform the Parliament within 60 days that elections must take place in the municipalities where the vote was unsuccessful due to low turnout. In the repeated vote, there will be no turnout threshold," PM Mickoski told reporters.

Once the Government gets the report from SEC, coalition partners will sit down and discuss the process of appointing administrators in these municipalities until the new mayors are elected.

Mayoral elections will be repeated in the municipalities of Gostivar, Mavrovo-Rostushe, Centar Zhupa and Vrapchishte, after the requirement of a one-thirds turnout was not met during the October 19 vote.
