Skopje, 24 November 2025 (MIA) - Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi said Monday a regular meeting held with the coordinators of the parliamentary groups has concluded that the motion to set up a parliamentary committee of inquiry into the Kochani nightclub fire, which was tabled by Levica and SDSM, was not in order because its backers seek to have a majority in the committee, while also having the chairperson post.

Gashi told Monday's press briefing that the opposition parties seek a majority, which is not in accordance with the Rules of Procedure referring to Article 124 thereof, and therefore the motion to set up an inquiry committee has been returned for revision.

In addition to the committee chairperson post, SDSM and Levica seek that SDSM and DUI each have four MPs, VMRO-DPMNE three, Vlen two, and ZNAM one.

Speaker Gashi also noted that no proposal for new members of the Government has been submitted to the Parliament, adding that he could not say when it will be submitted, but once it is, a session can be convened immediately.

As regards the Electoral Code, the Ministry of Justice is to notify the Parliament whether a new text is being drafted before a decision is made on setting up a working group of MPs to prepare its amendments.

On bills related to the reform agenda and the judiciary, the Parliament Speaker said the dynamics will be set as soon as they are submitted. 

Commenting on amendments to the Criminal Code in terms of the Constitutional Court's decision on the statute of limitations for offences of "abuse of office", Gashi said he expects them to reach the Parliament very soon. According to him, it could be adopted by December 26.

The election of the Ombudsman in the Parliament, said Gashi, depends on the agreement of the political parties represented in the Parliament.
