Skopje, 6 February 2025 (MIA) - Following Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski’s statement that VMRO-DPMNE's MPs will submit a motion to dismiss members of the Judicial Council, the Council’s president, Aleksandar Kambovski, said everyone has a right to put forward motions, but stressed all branches of government must act in line with the law and the Constitution.
“I’ve given my opinion regarding the procedure for the dismissal of Judicial Council members on several occasions. The Law on Judicial Council is the sole text that regulates this. Motions can be submitted to Parliament, everyone has a right to submit motions,” Kambovski told media on Thursday.
Asked what would happen if members of the Council are dismissed, Kambovski said he wouldn’t like to speculate but that he has no reason to doubt that Parliament and the Government are working in line with the legislation and the Constitution.
“We all work in line with the legislation and the Constitution. We have no reason to think the Parliament and Government aren’t working in line with these principles,” Kambovski, who is also a part of the Justice Ministry's working group tasked with drafting a new Law on the Judicial Council, told journalists.
Asked if he would meet the Prime Minister to “clear up any dilemmas”, Kambovski said he has “no dilemmas when it comes to working in line with the law”.
“I am always open for dialogue and cooperation with the other two branches of government, not for me, not for the judicial branch, but for the citizens,” Kambovski said.
“It is evident,” he said, “that there is some dissatisfaction with certain members of the Judicial Council. But all branches of government must act in line with the legislation and the Constitution”.
