Endrick snatches late win for Brazil after dramatic finale

London, 9 June 2024 (PA Media/dpa/MIA) — Brazil snatched a dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico with a goal six minutes into added time after letting a two-goal lead slip in Texas.

Guillermo Martinez had equalised for Mexico three minutes into stoppage time at College Station, but Brazil grabbed the win as Endrick headed in Vinicius Junior’s cross.

Brazil had taken a 2-0 lead with goals early in each half from Andreas Pereira and Gabriel Martinelli.

Mexico hit back after 73 minutes, Julian Quinones latching on to Alexis Vega’s cross to fire home from close range.

Substitutes Endrick and Vinicius Junior both had chances to wrap up the match blocked and they were made to pay.

Martinez, who only came on after 89 minutes, had already gone close with a shot and a header as time ran out before levelling the score from a difficult angle following a corner.

But it was not enough, Vinicius Junior finding Endrick in the centre of the box to head in the late winner.

It was the 17-year-old’s third goal in as many matches, following the only goal in the win over England at Wembley and in a 3-3 draw with Spain in Madrid.
