Cinematheque to screen Japanese films

Skopje, 13 November 2025 (MIA) — Beginning Friday, the Cinematheque will screen several Japanese movies over the next few days to offer an insight into the culture of Japan through Japanese cinema.
Organized by the Embassy of Japan, Japanese Film Days are "a rare opportunity for the Macedonian audience to get acquainted with the depth, complexity and unique aesthetics of Japanese cinematography," the Cinematheque said in a press release.
The films to be shown are “Under the Open Sky” (2020), “Fortune Favors Lady Nikuko” (2021), “Penguin Highway” (2021), “Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku” (2020), “Rent-a-Cat” (2012) and “The Burmese Harp” (1956). Admission is free.
"The program consists of a variety of films in a wide range of genres – from dramas to animation movies, showcasing new names and talents of Japanese cinematography.
"Their creativity, attention to detail and inspiration from Japanese culture, social issues and modern life make this cycle particularly current and relevant for today's audiences," the release said. mr/
