Skopje, 13 February 2025 (MIA) - The coordinating body tasked with drafting a program of activities to mark the 80th anniversary of the codification of the Macedonian standard language held a constitutive meeting Thursday in Skopje.

Minister of Culture and Tourism Zoran Ljutkov said the meeting marks the beginning of preparations for the marking of “a very significant jubilee for our country and our people”.

“The body’s constitutive meeting is a very important step in the organization of all activities that will mark this significant jubilee. With your expertise, commitment and cooperation, I am confident that we will create a program that will highlight the importance of the Macedonian standard language, celebrate its legacy and promote its modern use,” Ljutkov said.

At the meeting, Ljutkov underscored the body’s task to organize events, exhibitions, conferences, the publishing of publications and other cultural activities "that will highlight the importance of the Macedonian language as a keeper of the cultural and national memory, as well as a living tool for communication, education and creativity in the present".

“As Minister of Culture, I believe that this jubilee isn’t only an occasion to celebrate the past, it is also an important moment for the exchange of ideas for the future of the Macedonian standard language. Over these 80 years, our language has been developing and modernizing, and we, as creators of cultural policy, have a duty to nurture it, protect it and pass it down to future generations,” Ljutkov said.

Ljutkov stressed the jubilee should also encourage new ideas about the future of the Macedonian standard language, its place in the global context, as well as its place and development in all areas of live.
