Angel Korunovski's art placed on display in 'Faces' exhibition

Skopje, 24 December 2025 (MIA) — Academic sculptor Angel Korunovski's sculptures will be on display in his "Faces" exhibition at Skopje's Mala Stanica, which opens Wednesday evening.

According to the National Gallery in a press release, the sculpture show "gives visual form to the human presence beneath the surface of modern noise."

"Each portrait emerges from layers of torn newspapers — fragments of mass media representing the enormous flow of global information," the release said, adding that the artist turned old newspapers into portrait sculptures showing "emotions, resistance and survival within systems that erase individuality."

"The faces are incomplete, fragmented and somewhat rough," the release said, "reflecting the condition of people fighting to stay clear in a world that places high value on consumerism and conformity."

"Ultimately, these works are an act of empathy and rebellion — a visual testimony of people who are trying to live authentically and remain human while surrounded by corruption and chaos," it said.

Korunovski's portrait sculptures, according to the National Gallery, "stand as testaments to quiet dignity, reminding us that behind every piece of news and behind every global narrative, there is a real face, a real life and an unseen truth beneath the surface of modern noise."

Curated by Gorancho Gjorgievski, "Faces" will be on view through January.
