Training session aims to address anti-Roma racism in schools

Skopje, 13 March 2026 (MIA) — Cultural sensitivity instructors and educators gathered Friday for a training session focused on combating anti-Roma racism and discrimination in schools.

The session, titled "Non-discrimination and the Fight against Antigypsyism as a Form of Racism," was organized by Minister without Portfolio in charge of the Integration and Implementation of the Roma Inclusion Strategy 2022-2030 Shaban Saliu, in cooperation with the Council of Europe.

According to organizers, the initiative is part of a joint program between the European Union and the Council of Europe. It primarily targets high school teachers and administrators.

The training focuses on three main areas: identifying and understanding specific forms of racism directed at the Roma community; increasing cultural sensitivity and knowledge of Roma history; and ensuring fair and inclusive treatment for all students.

Participants stressed that these training sessions were vital for creating inclusive policies and promoting equality for the Roma community.

The program will expand in April to include preschool teachers and child care center caregivers, ensuring the initiative covers all levels of the education system, organizers said. mr/
