Prosecutors file motion for house arrest of judge suspected for corruption

Skopje, 20 January 2026 (MIA) - The Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Corruption has filed a motion to a pre-trial judge for house arrest of judge Gjoko Ristov, who is suspected of accepting a reward for unlawful influence, money laundering and other proceeds from crimes.

Besides the house arrest, the motion also includes precautionary measures - confiscation of passport or other document used to cross a state border, and ban for its issuance.

The prosecutor's office said yesterday that as part of an extensive investigation of high-level corruption, backed by National Security Agency intelligence reports, prosecutors have found EUR 350,000 stashed in the parental home of an Appellate Court justice.

Prosecutors searched the premises after a probe into a lawyer suspected of receiving money or favors was expanded to include the Appellate Court justice.
