Skopje, 13 March 2026 (MIA) - The Nordic countries offer enormous economic opportunities but penetration in their markets requires an understanding of their standards, expectations and business culture, heard an event organized by the Swedish-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce on Friday.
About 30 Swedish companies are operating in the country, in the automotive industry, telecommunications, medical equipment, textile, health, cosmetics etc.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Albrim Hoxha said trade dynamics with Sweden, Denmark and Norway is significantly lower than it should be.
"Last year, Sweden was our 19th trading partner, which is solid, but there is potential for increased cooperation. The same goes for Denmark and Norway. Denmark was 43rd regarding imports to Macedonia, Norway was 33rd, while Sweden was 24th, which demonstrates the interest for intensification of cooperation and enhancement of economic ties. Macedonia can offer its products from the food industry, chocolates, cocoa-based products, vegetables at the Nordic markets. Nordic imports usually focus on animal fats, lactose-free milk, meat and fish. Direct participation of companies at business events, direct meetings and relationships are needed in order to make the exchange more robust, dynamic and diverse. We invite Nordic companies to visit Macedonia and communicate with our firms. The scandinavian economies are among the most innovative in Europe, with strong industries and advanced technologies, and offer products with unique taste that correspond to our culture," said Deputy Minister Hoxha.

Swedish Ambassador Ola Sohlström said the objective is to attract as many companies as possible to work in and with Macedonia.
"Sweden has companies that want to offer products and services on your market. We will try to attract more of them. We want to support more trade, more jobs and better ties," said Ambassador Sohlström.

He urged companies to get involved in improving bilateral economic ties.
"We want to create opportunities in Sweden as an export destination but also a source of investments. Through creativity, work and support, we can improve this aspect. Who knows, maybe Sweden will improve on the 19th spot in a couple of years," said Sohlström.
He also highlighted Sweden's strong support for Macedonia's Euro-integration process.

Event "Doing Business with the Nordics: Opportunities for Macedonian Producers" was organized in cooperation with the Swedish organization "We Effect".
