Skopje, 14 January 2026 (MIA) - The Ministry of Economy and Labor presented Wednesday a five-year National Strategy for development of small and medium enterprises (SME) that is set to ensure increased competitiveness and higher export potential.
The strategy includes measures aimed to simplify regulations, improve access to finance and support green and digital transition of these enterprises.
SMEs are the backbone of the national economy, accounting for nearly 99 percent of the total number of enterprises and providing livelihoods for almost three-quarters of the country's workforce.
"SMEs are not only part of our economy - they are our economy. Their success means a more secure future for families and a stronger state. The SME strategy 2025-2030 creates the conditions for SMEs to be the leaders of change, not followers," said Minister of Economy and Labor Besar Durmishi.
According to him, the document has been drafted through an inclusive process and is fully aligned with European Union policies.
"The strategy is preparing our economy for integration into the European single market," said Durmishi.
The Ministry of Economy and Labor will coordinate the strategy's implementation in partnership with relevant institutions, chambers of commerce, financial institutions and international partners.
