Ministry of Digital Transformation and E-Commerce Association sign cooperation memorandum

Skopje, 13 February 2026 (MIA) - The Macedonian E-Commerce Association (AETM) and the Ministry of Digital Transformation have signed a memorandum of cooperation, formally making the Ministry an honorary member of the Association.

“The memorandum sets a framework for institutional cooperation in the fields of e-commerce, digitalization, artificial intelligence, digital skills and innovation with the aim of accelerating digital transformation and developing the country’s digital economy,” the E-Commerce Association reported Friday.

During the meeting, the importance of e-commerce as an integral part of the digital economy and as a key driver of competitiveness for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises was emphasized. The E-Commerce Association highlighted its role in supporting the business sector through the development of new online sales channels, education, research, and initiatives to improve the market.

Under the cooperation, the parties will share information and expertise, take part in joint events and training, develop educational programs, and consider joint national and international projects.

"Promoting the digitalization of the business sector is just as important as the digitalization of public administration. It offers new opportunities for business growth, increased revenues, cost rationalization, and space for innovation. Therefore, we believe that the partnership with the E-Commerce Association will contribute to greater mobilization of the business sector toward exploring the opportunities offered by new tools,” Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski said.

The Association expressed its readiness to contribute to the implementation of the Smart/MK 2030 digitalization strategy, particularly in the areas of SME digitalization, the development of digital skills, and the promotion of cashless payments.

"E-commerce is not just another sales channel – it is the infrastructure of the modern economy. Through this cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, we are taking a step toward systematically positioning e-commerce as a driver of the digital economy and the competitiveness of Macedonian companies,” AETM president noted.

They also discussed the importance of promoting cashless payments and potential joint initiatives in this area, which will be further reviewed and developed in the coming period.
